XY Load Pin for Logging Application 📰

For one of our US customers we have manufactured a 120,000lbf XY load pin for a skyline tension monitoring system. The load measuring pin replaces an existing pin in the skyline sheave to provide the operator with a direct readout of skyline tension. This allows optimal loading of the skyline, while avoiding overloading and potential line failure. Because the angle of the cable over the pin changes as the load comes in, the pin needs to be able to sense load in two directions, so an XY load pin was designed which features two sets of strain gauges mounted at 90 degrees to each other. The two outputs then enable the tension in the skyline to be accurately calculated. An 8″ tablet was also supplied with a customised display and an alarm feature to provide a warning when predefined tension limits are reached.
